Being professional helpful and respectful are the traits needed. If the event is good and well run people will go regardless of who is hosting. With the +1 you are going to have mod beat and mod Jedi due to them giving themselves a gazillion thumbs up with all their forum accounts.

Well a voting option would be cool, but it would be still only a small factor in everything we take into account when choosing possible candidates. The process of evaluating people is at full swing at the moment, we check the mod application, then we check players actual activity online in-game. Between staff we discuss players reputation in-game, who has experience with him resolving conflicts, good or bad experiences. Then we go DEEP into the players history, global chat, PM's, trades. We look for people with good judgement, reputation, decent social skills and most important of all people that ACTUALLY do stuff for other players, not only say in mod application "I want to help", you CAN help even without having the mod crown near your nickname, you can answer questions, help newbies, discuss issues with the other players.
