The first one RULES. Any remotely competent broadcaster would take five seconds to say something like, "Sorry about that. We're having some technical problems with the prompter at the moment, but we're gonna power through. Please hang in there with us while we go through this segment." Even if it was a blatant lie, it would at the very least get him off the hook with the audience, and would calm his nerves to the point where he could get through the segment without stuttering every other second and mouthing, "I'm so sorry" to the producer. What a big-eared goose egg.
