How are the items kept on death decided?

I always assumed it was based off of alch value, but I was just killed with a staff of iban which according to the wiki has an alch value of 25,500, but a swordfish protected over it.

It is based off of alch value.

I'm assuming that because iban is a non-tradeable quest item, it is programmed to have the default shop  value of zero, like a party hat. Most if not all quest items are this way.

This can be fixed by admins easily enough, if need be.

I always assumed, but never really investigated into, it was based off of shop value rather than alch value. Hence why non-tradables drop instead of random lower priced items due to not actually being able to sell/trade.

Also, don't hats sell for like 2-3gp in shops? Not sure about on here, and can't remember shit about orginal classic to save my life, but on a different server I sold a few hats to various shops for events and remember getting a few gp for them.

When items are implemented, they are givin a Base Value. The alch value is just a equation using the base value.

Shop value based on high alch value so its all related/the same.
